Jackson
After collecting your rental car, it’s a 10-mile drive to your home for the night, Jackson Hole. Enjoy an evening meal at one of the many fine restaurants as you prepare for your drive through the Rocky Mountains.

Jackson to Grand Teton National Park, 42 miles
Staying at Colter Bay Village is a great way to start your Rocky Mountain holiday. Set amongst the trees on the banks of Jackson Lake in the Grand Teton Mountain range, it’s the perfect base for exploring the national park where there is an abundance of outdoor activities including kayaking, canoeing, lake cruises, horseback riding, fishing and hiking.

Grand Teton National Park to Yellowstone National Park, 40 miles
At over 3,500 square miles and spanning three states, Yellowstone National Park was the USA's first national park. Sitting on a volcanic hot spot, the park’s most famous natural wonder is the impressive Old Faithful geyser, which expels hot water high into the Wyoming sky throughout the day. The park offers outstanding scenery and is home to a wide variety of wildlife that is sure to bring a smile to your face.

Yellowstone National Park to Cody, 102 miles
The Wild West town of Cody is home to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West which has 5 museums, including the Buffalo Bill Museum, tracing William F. Cody’s life with multimedia displays, and the Draper Natural History Museum, with wildlife exhibits. Nearby, Old Trail Town is a recreated frontier town with log cabins and a saloon which take you back in time to the 1800s.

Cody to Sheridan, 146 miles
After a drive through the Big Horn National Forest, you will arrive at Sheridan. Full of Old West history, the town offers a glimpse into what life was like as a cowboy or pioneer along the Westward migration trails. There are historical sites and exhibits that illuminate the turmoil of the American Indian Wars. En route from Cody, stop off at Shell Falls and take a walk along the interpretive trail.

Sheridan to Gillette, 105 miles
The city was originally founded as a major railway town on the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. As well as being a gateway to Devil’s Tower National Monument, the city is home to the Frontier Auto Museum and the Eagle Butte Coalmine Tours which pays homage to the area’s rich natural energy sources.

Gillette to Rapid City, 191 miles
En route to Rapid City, take Highway 14 north to Devil’s Tower National Monument. The Tower is an astounding geological feature that protrudes out of the prairie surrounding the Black Hills and is considered sacred by Northern Plains Indians. Onwards to Rapid City located close to both Mount Rushmore and Badlands National Park, famous for its stunning vistas, wildlife encounters, outdoor activities and stargazing opportunities.

Rapid City to Cheyenne, 290 miles
Cheyenne is the state capital city of Wyoming and home to the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum and the Wyoming State Museum, where you can view dinosaur fossils. No visit to Cheyenne is complete without visiting the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, which include 27 impressive speciality landscapes across 3 storeys.

Cheyenne to Rocky Mountain National Park (Estes Park), 84 miles
Today you head off to Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park where there is so much to see and do. Colorado’s highest byway happens to be the highest paved road in North America and the views up to Mount Evans are breathtaking, with alpine lakes, massive granite walls and ancient bristlecone pine. During the summer months a timed entry pass is required to drive to the summit. Other attractions are the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park which was the inspiration for the Stephen King novel “The Shining”.

Rocky Mountain National Park (Estes Park) to Denver, 218 miles
The mile high city of Denver is the perfect blend of the outdoor and the urban. After dropping your rental car off downtown, discover the Denver Beer Trail which includes one of the city's oldest microbreweries, Wynkoop Brewing Company. Larimer Square in downtown Denver is the place to be for some last-minute retail therapy and the exciting atmosphere of the restaurants, bars and clubs.
