Anchorage

Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, and cultural capital is nestled amidst the Chugach Mountains at the head of Cook Inlet. Founded in 1914 as a construction headquarters for the Alaska Railroad, it has grown into a vibrant hub known for its natural beauty, rich history, and diverse cultural offerings. Wander the narrow, pedestrian friendly streets, which are host to a good selection of bars and restaurants, museums, and galleries, many displaying local and cultural art.

Glacier Bay National Park

Glacier Bay is the largest protected marine sanctuary in the world. During the Ice Age a 5,000-foot layer of ice covered it. The ice acts like a prism when sunlight hits it, and the tiny tightly compacted crystals look vivid blue. Glacier Bay tides can change as much as 25 feet from high to low tide. Wilderness adventures including camping, hiking, backpacking, kayaking, rafting, and mountaineering. Only accessible by boat, the best way to get up close to the park is on a cruise.

Seward & Kenai Fjords National Park

Seward serves as a picturesque gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, a popular spot due to its phenomenal glaciers. Seward has an adorable downtown, a thriving fishing industry and is the starting point for some breath taking cruise tours of the inlets and fjords in the park where you can see whales, seals, and puffins. You also have the option of exploring the park in a kayak, by car or along one of the many hiking trails. The whole area is a wilderness wonderland and can be reached from Anchorage by car, a 2 and a 1/2 journey on one of the most scenic highways in the state or by train, where you can see glaciers, steep gorges, and rugged alpine scenery.

Denali National Park

Boasting glaciers and an abundance of wildlife including grizzlies, wolves, and caribou, it is also home to Mount Denali – North America's tallest peak. Its 6 million acres are adorned with approximately 12,200 lakes and ponds and 18,679 miles of streams and glaciers. Please note the Denali Park Road is the only road that gives access to the park and hire cars are only allowed to drive the first 15 miles of it, so the best way to explore park is either by narrated or non-narrated buses.

Fairbanks

Located at the very end of the Alaskan Highway, quirky Fairbanks is Alaska’s second largest city and offers a delightful mix of modern and historic attractions. Famous for its goldrush history, visitors can explore Pioneer Park, an historic village that showcases what life was like in the goldrush era and pan for gold at Gold Dredge 8 in its gold fields. Just 186 miles away from the Arctic Circle American Affair can arrange sightseeing flights to the rarely visited Arctic Circle over the Arctic River and its acres and acres of unspoilt wilderness.
