Day 1
Arrive in New Orleans
Welcome to the ‘Big Easy’, New Orleans, settle into your hotel close to the airport. Enjoy a good night sleep in preparation for your Texas and Deep South adventure. Don’t worry you will get to enjoy some time in New Orleans at the end of your holiday.
Day 2-3
New Orleans to Lafayette, 135 miles
Pick up your car and drive west to Lafayette, making a stop in Baton Rouge to visit the Old State Capitol and take in the city views from the observation deck at the Louisiana State Capitol Building, the tallest capitol building in the USA. Lafayette is located in the heart of cajun country and is surrounded by swamps and bayous. Visit the fascinating living museums Acadian Village and Vermilionville. Learn more about the history of the Acadians and see how the cajun’s lived, listen to their music, and enjoy their authentic cuisine.
Day 4-5
Lafayette to Houston, 217 miles
Houston, Texas is your next stop, the fourth largest city in the USA. The city offers plenty to keep everyone occupied with hundreds of restaurants and shopping options, particularly in the Central Business District. Its most popular attraction is the Space Center Houston where you can learn about the history of space travel. Experience the sensation of what it felt like to land and walk on the moon in a simulator, see the space suits worn by the astronauts and visit Mission Control which was the control centre of the space launch that saw Neil Armstrong land on the moon in 1969.
Day 6-7
Houston to San Antonio, 197 miles
Continue west to the colourful and historical town of San Antonio, a very walkable city steeped in fascinating history. With strong Mexican influences, Spanish is widely spoken, and you’ll find impressive Spanish architecture all over the city including the well-known Alamo which symbolises Texan independence. Stroll along the vibrant Riverwalk and enjoy al fresco dining or take a relaxing cruise along the scenic San Antonio River.
Day 8
San Antonio to Austin, 80 miles
Drive to Austin the, state capital, for an overnight stay. It’s all about the music and food in Austin, with over 200 live music venues, Tex-Mex restaurants, food trucks serving food from all around the world. For music lovers, don’t miss the world-renowned South By Southwest Music Festival that draws well known singers and bands that takes place in early Spring. If visiting during spring and summer, see the largest urban bat colony in the USA fly out from under the Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge at dusk.
Day 9-10
Austin to Dallas Forth Worth, 190 miles
Experience wild west culture in the cattle town of Fort Worth, located just outside of Dallas. Fort Worth is an authentic cowboy town, complete with wooden boardwalks, old fashioned store fronts where an exciting cattle drive takes place in the Stockyards district every day. Drive to Dallas, made famous for the television show and visit Southfork Ranch. Dallas is also tragically where John F Kennedy was assassinated. The Sixth Floor Museum at the Dealey Plaza is a must visit whilst in the city where you can learn about the life of John F Kennedy, the time leading up to the assassination and see interesting exhibits and artefacts.
Day 11
Dallas Forth Worth to Little Rock, 395 miles
The state of Arkansas beckons today, known as the ‘Nature State’, it's known for its extraordinary natural beauty. Stay a night in the state capital Little Rock, where the former president Bill Clinton lived and governed for 16 years. Visit the Clinton Presidential Library, along with the vibrant River Market District, where you can listen to live music and dine in a wide choice of restaurants.
Day 12-13
Little Rock to Memphis, 212 miles
Head to Memphis, Tennessee where music is the heartbeat of the city and listen to ‘blues’, soul, and rock ‘n’ roll music. With so many musical highlights to choose from including the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, world famous Graceland, the second most visited home in the USA and Sun Studios where legends including Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash recorded hits. Another recommended visit is to the moving National Civil Rights Museum that incorporates the Lorraine Motel where Dr Martin Luther King was tragically killed, that delves deep into history of the Civil Rights Movement and the courage people had.
Day 14-16
Amtrak to New Orleans
Leave your hire car in Memphis and board your Amtrak train for your journey to New Orleans. Enjoy three nights in vibrant New Orleans, a melting pot of different cultures including French, Creole and Spanish. Explore the delightful French Quarter and its iron-balconied buildings, hanging moss and colourful flags and listen to jazz music, New Orleans is famous for being the birthplace of jazz. Enjoy a lunch or dinner onboard an authentic paddle-wheeler on the mighty Mississippi and shop until you drop in the Riverwalk Outlets, New Orleans offers tax free shopping!

Homeward bound
Travel back to the airport today by taxi and board your flight to the UK.
